STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) r Stratford, Last Night. Messrs*. D. Cuddie and W. M. Singleton will arrive in Stratford this evening, and will address a meeting of dairy farmers to-night. Messrs. Derby Bros, are busy re-erect-ing their sawniilling plant on a new site on Stanley Eoad. It is anticipated that it will be working in about three weeks' time. Mr. R. McXab will deliver a lecture in the Town Hall to-morrow evening. The subject will be "The Discovery of New Zealand by Captain Cook." .The Masonic Rail will be held on September 22nd. From predictions by farmers, the coming season will be a prosperous dairy produce season. Prices promise to be high, and the season from the point of feed and a' mild winter, has opened well. i
The work on tile Whangamomona tunnel is being pushed on rapidly. In spite of the utmost energy, it seems highly improbable that the' saddle will be pierced for another eighteen months. In the meantime, the further construction of the line is laid up. and it only adds one more to the many similar reasons why tunnels should be commenced many months ere the construction work reaches them.
The Licensing Committee meet to morrow, but the only business is sev eral transfer applications.
