HUNT CLUB BALL

A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The North Taranaki Hunt Club established a record success last night with its annual .ball. The function was the most brilliant seen here for many a long day, and was remarkable for the innovations made by the committee in the disposition of its arrangements. The decorative and furnishing scheme was excellent. The stage was lavishly provided as a sitting-out apartment, and was largely used throughout the whole evening. This much-needed improvement in the accommodation of a large number of guests was secured by the committee having been fortunate enough to arrange with 'Mrs. Kirkby, Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Pritchard to use their adjoining rooms as supper-rooms, and the arrangement worked excellently. The decoration of the hall was evidently the work of a master hand, prominent amongst the decorations being saddles and hunting gear, whilst flags and flowers everywhere abounded. The room was gaily dressed, some of the ladies' costumes being real triumphs of the art of the costumiere. The Ladies' Committee is deserving of every praise for the manner in which the comfort of the guests was attended to, and Miss Bewley and Miss Constance Leatham for the excellence of the table decorations. The Ladies' Committee consisted of Mesdames Bewley, jjiundell, A. Cliff. Foreman, Halcombe, Morris, Salwav, Street and Wilkie, Misses Blundell M. Clarke, H. Humphries, M. Humphries, 0. Mackay and Matthews. Messrs. A. H. Halcombe and E. Humphries were the M's.C, and Mrs. Woods' orchestra of ten instruments provided music that was a treat in itself. Mr. A. Wooler was entrusted with the catering, and this was quite a feature of the success. The guests, who came from near and far, were lavish in their praise of the manner in which the ball was conducted, and the secretaries (Messrs. A. L. Humphries and Stokes) were deserving of it all.
