Rifaat Pasha, in reply to Greek remonstrances, promised to exert his influence against a boycott and threatened expulsion of Hellenic subjects at Salonica. Turkish newspapers animadvert on the Greek elections and on the alleged weakness of the four protecting Powers in Crete,, and describe Greece and Bulgaria as disturbers of Turkeys' internal tranquility. They suggest a fresh sacrifice in order to give malevolent neighbours their quietus for the next twenty years.
