EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was held in | the Board's office last night. Present:! Messrs. J. Wade (chairman), J. Young, W. C. Cargill, Rogers, H. Trimble, G.. A. Adlam, A. Morton, W. M. Kennedy,' and A. H. Ilalcombe. I ARCHITECTS' REPORT. | The architects (Messrs. Sanderson and Griffiths) reported that plans and estimates had been prepared lor a new school at Ackland. The following schools had been completed:—Te Kiri,| Awatuna, York, Inglewood Technical, West End and Newa.il Road. Bad | weather had delayed the completion of; the Tarata residence and Frankley | school. The Stratford additions were well in hand. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT.
The chairman reported that since last meeting the following temporary appointments had been made: Tarata (head teacher) Miss Cnrmiehael; Raupulia, (teacher) Mr. X. Day; Douglas, (teacher) Mr. W. H. Scammell; Piko, (teacher) Miss Louise Ross; Tariki, (assistant) Miss C. M. Mackay; Mahoe, (assistant) Miss M. Haddrell; Kaimata, (assistant) Miss J. Tavendale. The foreman had been authorised to replace a partition in the building lately rented for a school on the York Road, and also to execute necessary repairs at Durham Road and Fitzroy. He urgec upon the Board the advisability of grassing out the grounds around the offices and Technical School. He also reported having appointed Mr. Trimble to attend the recent conference, vice 'Mr. Morton, who was unable to attend on account of illness. EXPENDITURE BY COMMITTEES. A telegram was received from Mr. G. Hogben: "Please state for purpose of Parliament, what changes, if any, have been made during period 1900-1909 in, what school committees have been expected to pay out of their ordinary incidental allowance. Wire reply tomorrow morning." The Board resolved to reply that during the period mentioned the charges have all been in the direction of decreasing expenditure oi committees and throwing more on the Board the cost of repairs and other expenses wlucli have hitherto been borne by committees. GENERAL. Application is to be made to the Public Trustee for portion of section for the proposed new school at Waihi. Mr. Halcombe reported on the application of settlers for a school at the Upper Uruti. The report was adopted, 1 and the usual procedure will be adopted. |
