SUPREME COURT.
ALLEGE# BREAKING AND ENTERING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday. At the Supreme Court to-day, before his Honour the Chief Justice, John Sidney Hines pleaded not guilty to a charge of breaking and entering the gum store of Francis Deacon at Kumeu. Denny, a half-caste Maori, was similarly charged on Saturday with breaking and entering in connection wth • the ott'ence, but was acquitted. Hines, who conducted his own defence, denied his guilt, and pointed .out the absence of evidence connecting him with the offence. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and prisoner was remanded for sentence. "Can I appeal, your Honour," asked prisoner. 'Yes," replied his Honour, "I suppose you feel sore because the other jury acquitted your companion and you have been found guilty. The fact is," concluded his Honour, "the other jury was gulled, but this jury has not been gulled." David Todd was charged with breaking and entering and stealing from the dwelling-house <3 Gustave Kronfled, and was found' guilty and remanded for sentence. *
