PROMOTION OF TEACHERS
VICTORIAN SCHEME SUGGESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The North Canterbury Educational Institute discussed fhe question of the appointment of teachers, and iit was considered that there should be some proper classification of teachers for the purpose of promotion, similar to the system in vogue in Victoria; where the board of classifiers of the .Department has the right to classify teachers in grades, but not to promote. It was decided to ask the Education Board to adopt some scheme of classification which will do away with tllie anomolies of the present system. : A sub-committee was set up to consider] the question of a Classification Board for the promotion of teachers, and to suggest some scheme of promotion. The meeting was in favour of the Education Conference re sick pay, and protested strongly against the Canterbury Board's proposed regulations dealing with- sick pay.
