Mr. Okey lias given notice to ask the Minister of Mines -whether hia Attention has been drawn to the following cable, which shows the assistance given to the oil industry 'by the Commonwealth Government: —'"Melbourne, August 16, 1010. —Mr. Tudor, Minister for Customs, informed a deputation, asking for a bonus for the development of the oil and shale industry, that the Government had decided to introduce in the near future a Bounties Bill providing for a bonus of £IO,OOO a year for five years for the production of refim d petroleum in Australia. The conditions would >e so framed that imported crude oil re lined in Australia would not be eligible . .ir the bounty." This being so, will h> introduce a similar Bill for this Dominion ? A hard substance of the nature of lime crystal -was brought up from the 1430 ft. level of Xo. 1: bore yesterday. Mr. Carter (chairman of directors) has the specimen, which is well worth examining. The directors of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, Ltd., invite applications from the public for the balance of the recently created 30,000 preference shares. The list is to close on October 1.
