CANTERBURY UNION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Thursday. At a meeting of the local Rugby Union there was some discussion on the date of the North v. South match, which it was suggested should be played each year on June 3. A committee was appointed to consider the advisability of having a definite scheme for interprovincial fixtures generally with a view of laying them before the New Zealand Union. The Taranaki team for Auckland will be as originally selected for the Wellington match, except that Pini cannot go. Crowley (Okaiawa) will take his place, and Anderson (Stratford) will be the emergency Iback. North Taranaki players hod rather expected to see Ward given a chance now, seeing that the pack is very deficient in pace and "go." Mi*. Jas. McLeod is to act as manager of the Taranaki team which visits Auckland next week. The play-off between Okaiawa and Eltham for the third-grade championship will take place at Eltham next Thursday. The Rugby Union has declined to induce the sentence of one year's disqualification inflated on E. Steele (Tukapa), who was n for kicking a player in the Tukapa-Clifton match. Steele appealed, on the ground that he had received extreme provocation. The West End Boy Scouts, in their neat khaki uniforms, collected £6 1,7s yesterday for the Bayly Memorial Scholarship fund by means of collections and sales of programmes at the match. The gate takings at the WellingtonTaranaki match were about £l5O. The Wellington team leaves this morning for Wanganui, where they will engage the local representatives to-morrow. ■lt is stated that there is a proposal to j start Northern Union football in WaI nganui. v .
