Money for the children's hospital lund is still being received,. .Mrs. Wiliord and Miss Joseph have to date banked £6450.- It is probable this amount will be swelled 'by several - hundreds, for there are several lists yet to come in, besides which' a number of promised subscriptions have not yet been forwarded, some of them being for' fairly substantial amounts. SHEEP FIGURES. • Wellington, Last Nigiht. The approximate.number of sheep.in New Zealand at.the end of April was 23,792,947, an increase for. the year of 312,240; The figures for the different districts are: Auckland 1,097,11S (in-' crease 7772), tNapier-Gisborne 5,759,011 (increase 118;574), Wellington-West Coast 5,780,"206 (increase 296,678), Marl-borough-Nelson-Westland 1,298,451 (increase 73,420), Canterbury Kaikoura 5,335,557 (decrease 140,175), Otago 4,542,604 (decrease 44,129). The increase in the North Island was 423,124, while in the South Island there was a decrease of 110,884. The number of mutton carcases exported was 1,711,839, as against 1,899.441 the previous year, and the lamb carcases 3,423,918, as against 2,901(358 the previous year.
