There were large crowds at Mrs. Florence Nightingale's funeral, from where she died in South street to Waterloo (Station, the coffin was entrained lor East w'ellow. There was a profusion of wreaths.

Queen Alexandra sent a cross of orchids, inscribed: "In memory of the greatest benefactress 1 to suffering humanity." Grenadier, Coldstream and Soots Guards carried the coffin to the train, and acted as a bearer party at Wellow.

The wreath® included one from the Tasmanian Nurses' Association.

Five thousand people attended the memorial service at St. Paul's Cathedral. King George, Queen Mary, the Queen Mother Alexandra, the Duke of Connaught, the Princess Christian and Mr. Asquith were represented, also the War Office, the Admiralty, the hospitals and the Nursing 'Home, and foreign (Red Cross societies. Seven hundred nurses gathered under the dome, and there ■were forty Crimean veterans. The Royal Victorian Trained Nurses sent a telegram, and> there were many other colonial tributes. Mr. Whitelaw Reid (U.S.A. Ambassador) and his wife, and a brilliant group of navy and army officers and men attended the St. Paul's service.
