Webster, pale blue voile. I 'Euchre larty.—Mrs. li. Davy gave a most enjoyable euchre party at her reI sidenee last Tuesday evening, and the prizes were won by Miss D. Bedford, Miss O. Mackay and Mr. F. Robertson. Amongst those present were: Mrs. Davy, reseda green Liberty satin, corsage relieved with cream and pink floral Oriental trimming; Miss Carte, white muslin; Miss Roy, white muslin; Miss G. Mackay, cream, wit'h tucked net blquse, { 1 Owing to an attack of the prevailing influenza, Mrs. Hugh Bailey had to postpone her two bridge parties this week. Last Saturday Mrs. Walter Bayley gave a most enjoyable bridge party, Mrs. Webster securing the highest score. ! Last Wednesday the Amateur Comedy Company drove to Inglewood, where they played "Browne with an E" for the benefit of the Inglewood Band fund. They were welcomed with a packed house; as well as an appreciative one. Amongst those who went in the brake were Mr. and Mrs. Soutliall, Messrs Muir (Dune- > din), Nixon, L. Hill, Easther, Ruddock, and H. Davies, Misses Fitzlierbert (2), ' Bedford (2) and E. Stacker.
A LETTER FROM STRATFORD. The second series of the Catholic socials was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening. There were about 50 couples present. The music was supplied by Miss Diamond and was briaiit and''sparkling throughout. During the evening some excellent views of England and Ireland were shown with a powerful magic lantern by Mr. 'Sexton and were thoroughly enjoyed. Musical items were rendered. Mr. Bird, who possesses a fine baritone 'voice, contributed two songs, also ill'. East and Master Birkctt. Visitors were present from all parts of the district. A very dainty supper was provided by an energetic lady's committee and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Extras were played by Mrs. Bianchi and Misses Schrowdski and F. Diamond and Mr. Richardson. Among those present 1 noticed 'Mrs. Maxwell (Toko), wearing a gown of pink crepoline, trimmed with Paris lace and straps of black silk insertion; Miss Breen, who looked extremely well in a 'gown of perament blue silk taffeta, trimmed with sdlk Maltese lace and Peris net; Mrs Pluse (Midhirst), white silk, with touches of shell pink; Mi-s Fitzgerald, dainty white silk; Miss Fit/Gerald',' Indian muslin ro'be; Mrs. Butler (Toko), grey silk skirt, with cream -blouse; Miss Dowling, pale blue silk, profusely trimmed with lace and insertion; Miss Sullivan, white Indian muslin robe, with garnishings of heliotrope; Miss Bleasel, dainty white frock I of bishop lawn, trimmed with real lace; Miss Gardiner, white box robe; Miss Burkett. white, white touches of blue;
i Miss Gilchrist, blade voile skirt and ' dainty white silk blouse ;Mrs. Fahev, | Mack silk skirt, with dainty blue merv I blouse; Mrs. T. Sullivan, black silk; ' Mrs. Sexton, black silk; Mrs. Sullivan, brown silk voile, dainty vest of net, finished with bands of black ribbon velvet. Others present were Mrs. Malone, Misses Kirkwooi! (3), McDonald, 'Diamond and .Murray. ,\]r. .Jones, of the Bank of Xew Zealand, Stratford-, returned from Kangiora on Thursday night. Dr. and Mrs. Paget have returned from an enjoyable holiday in the South Island. Mr. Morton Clark, of the Bank of New Zealand staff,' Wellington, spent the week-end in Stratford, and was the guest of Mr- and Mrs. A. W. Birss, of Cordelia Btreet. Miss Boyle, of Reef ton, who has-been spending a short holiday with Mrs 1' rank Hedgeman, of Stratford, has left for Wanganui. A LETTER FROM EAWS*L A The popular place of amusement in Tlawera at the present time is t'he Skating Rink. On Wednesday afternoon there were aibout 40 couples present. The instructor iliad his hands full in helping along tihe beginners, but the courtesy of Messrs T. C. Gormley and Berry extended to the ladies was miuch appreciated. These gentlemen, being extremely good skaters, helped many to enjoy a pleasant afternoon. Mr. and Mr®. Howell, of Auckland, have been visiting Hawera, and were the guests of Mr. and .Mrs. Marmont, Victoria street. WEDDING AT RAHOTU. A very pretty wedding was celebrated at ißahotu on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Pendwell, of iCanterbry, and Miss N. Oook, of Oaonui, being the contracting parties. The wedding was celebrated in
the Methodist, Church, the officiating minister .being the Rev. R. P. Keall, of Opunake. The bride and her sister, Mr. A. Cook, wore very pretty dresses of cream .silk, the bride carrying a beautiful bouquet and wearing a very rich spray and veil. The guests wore entertained at the ihome of the bride's parents at Oaonui, when a goodly number sat dow nto breakfast. The presents were very fine and very numerous.—Own correspondent.
