HIGH SCHOOL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. | \ The monthly meeting of the High School Board was held on Wednesday, when .all the members were present except Mr. Glasgow, who was absent on account of illness. The chairman was requested to make arrangements with the Principal for the circulation of the prospectus. Mr. Wills was granted leave of absence to attend the university examination in Auckland subject to wttißiac-' tory arrangements being made w*th the Principal. Mr. Percy Smith reported on behalf of the School Motto Committee thau the Maori words "Runga-riro" be adopted, the signification of these words being literally "Above all," conveying an idea similar but s'tipmtidr to "Excelsior." The motto was .unanimously adopted, the committee being congratulated on having departed from hide-bound custom. ■ A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Percy Smith for a donation of plants and his services in connection with the plantation. | The chairman was requested to report ( on improvements to the Girls' Tennis. Court. A transfer of section 110, Waitara, from J. Hansen to G. S. Wood, was approved. The secretary reported that a sum of £336 18s 6d had been received from the Department towards the cost of the science room and equipment. Accounts amounting to £153 Is 2d were passed for payment.
