He; was sixty-three years of age. An opera-, tion on Monday disclosed an abscess on the brain, presumably the result of thej fall from the car. Deceased was born in India and was a nephew of Charles, Reade, the novelist. He had lived in ,Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Feilding and Foxton. In his younger days he ' played for Otago and Canterbury in representative cricket. He was also a well- , known oarsman and tennis player. One of his sons is in the Railway Department, another is editor of the New Zealand Graphic, and a. third son is a contractor at Havelock, Marlborough.
