TRADE RETURNS.
DISSATISFACTION AMONG BUSINESS MEN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday. The dissatisfaction that exists amongst business men in Auckland in regard to the detailed information asked for by the Census Department in respect iO the taking of quinquennial trade returns next year was presented to the Hon. G. Fowlds by a large -*nd representative deputation of merchants and manufacturers which waned upon the Minister this afternoon. Mr. J. H. Gunson, president ot the Chamber of Commerce, referred to the heads of the information as to tile details of 'business matters wiufiu \<ere asked for, and said that many or the requirements appeared to be of an unnecessarily inquisitorial nature. Mr. Fowlds, replying, said that he would be pleased to pmce tlieir representations before his colleagues. It certainly did seem, from what they had said, that to make up the returns asKed for would involve a great deal of labour, and it was possible that a very considerable modification would meev all requirements. There had been a feeling that the statistics hitherto collected did not give all the informatiun shat was desirable, nor was it as full as was obtained in the Australian States, and he understood that the object of the amended form of return was to bring this into line with Australian in regard to these returns.
