A CHARGE OF MANSLAUGTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Monday. At the' Police Court, Alfred James Lindsay was charged with manslaughter in connection wjth the death of John Lewis Sheard, who sustained fatal injuries as the result of a fall in Wellington Street on Monday night. Lind-j say stated at the inquest that he took his child from deceased, but denied having used unnecessary force, ieeieiring to the request for bail the Police Inspector stated that he had fresh evidence to produce and asked for a remand till Friday, which was granted. | Bail was allowed in two sureties of £so'! each.
SHEEP WORRYING.
Levin, Monday.
Horowhenua County Council discussed sheep worrying at Saturday's meeting, and unanimously resolved: "That owing to heavy losses sustained by sheepowners from the depredations of stray dogs this council calls upon the Government for amendment of the law dealing with the registration of dogs ■by making it an offence for any dog to be at large or in any public place without wearing the registered collar and badge of the current yeur, also that power to register dog 3 be alone vested in tlife county or borough councils."
THE GISBORNE LOAN. Gisborne, Monday. The Borough Council to-day received an offer from the Bank of New Zealand to grant a loan of .£175,000 at 4 per cent, interest, commission and other expenses totalling £5250, the offer to be conditional upon the council | re-transferring its banking account to (he Bank of New Zealand. Consideration, of the offer will be held over till to-morrow. The council is in the meantime 'communicating with the Mayor, who received an offer of a 4 per cent, loan in London.
EDUCATION LEASES. Wanganui, Last Night. The Education Board recently decided to invite tenders for the lease of a Technical School site which occupies a central position, being at t'he corner of Avenue and Guy ton Streets. Tenders were opened to-night, when all 'but two sections were the annual revenue being £9OB. It is expected that the remaining two sections will be taken. The Board intends to erect a new technical school, infant school, and Board Offices, and the finance committee was to-night authorised to invite tenders for a loan of £15,000 for this proposal.
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. Wellington, Last Night. The Mayoress' fund for the erection of a children's hospital has now readied a total of £5577.
PARI ,IAMENT ARY Tl! IPPERS. Auckland, Last NigliiThe Parliamentary special train, with about twenty southern and Auckland members, who have been visiting the Auckland show, left at 11.45 to-night. The train will reach Wellington in time for to-day's sitting.
