DISSATISFACTION AMONG THE CARDINALS. Received August 15, 9 p.m. Madrid, August 15. A communication published here says that there is grave dissatisfaction amongst the leading Cardinals, including the Ex-Papal Nuncios of Spain, owing to Cardinal Merry del Val not consulting the Congregation on extraordi-
nary ecclesiastical affairs as in the time of Leo XH. 'Every decision regarding Spain is due to Merry del Val and the Spanish Cardinal Nivesptutto, who,'as a life-long monk, is unfamiliar with democratic ideals. Remonstrance with the Powers is to be made in the hope that Pope Leo's work in establishing relations with them may not be destroyed. Excepting) Britain and: America the remonstrance has been abandoned as useless, the late iPope Pius being in invari'able agreement with Merry del Val m foreign affairs. KING HURRIEDLY RETURNS. London, August 14. King Alfonso has hurriedly returned to Madrid. (Received August 15, 10.50 p.m. London, August 15. Instead of proceeding to Madrid, Kin? Alfonso visited the Archduke Ferdinand of Austria at Ostend, whence he goes on a yachting cruise.
