In the Australian Steeplechase, Grafna:; was flfst, Workmaster second, and Seymour third. - All acceptors started. When settled in. position, Grafnax showed the.. way .to Charlemagne, 'Dio» Workmaster and Golden Brown. There tvas no change in the first mile. At the distance Grafnax and Charlemagne had ten lengths' lead. Squirm came to grief in the second mile. Grafnax led over the treble, being followed by Charlemagne, Diorite, Confederate, Nigel and Coir. Approaching the back, Coir ran up second, the next _being Charlemagne, (Nigel and Workmaster. The obstacle opposite the seven furlongs proved disastrous. Golden Brown, Coir, Generality and Diorite fell. Acer and Koistoit ran off. Coir broke lis Heck. Grafnax still led. Charlemagne and Rlpon came to grief next. Grafnax held a good lead from Workmaster, with Confederate, Seymour, Nigel and No Trouble following in that order. Shortly afterwards 'No Trouble ran off and .>ige 1 fell, Grafnax ibeing the winner by six lengths, fifteen lengths between second and third. Time, 7min 54% sec.
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TURF. 'Received August 14, 5.5 p.m. Adelaide, Last Night. The National. Hurdles resulted:—Kadina, 1; Kuloyrna,, '2; Macumba, 3. Twelve starters. Hotspur made the running during the early stages from Destinist and Seclusion.. Then Kadina took charge, and led.over the last 'hurdle wei'l clear of Kulcpna, the rest of the field handy. After threats of bad weather in the morningi, a fine day was experienced for the conclusion of the,, Grand National Meeting, which attracted a very good attendance.. The racing generally was interesting and speculation brisk, the totalisator investments feeing £20,505, as against £18,439 for the concluding day of last yeaT. ■ Forty-six 'bookmakers were licensed. Also started: Glengariff 12.11, Tyrannic 12.9, Lagmhor 12.0, Ever 10.5, Larry Lynx 9.9, and Thunderstorm 9.9. Won by two and a half lengths. Time, smin 18sec. Heathcote Handicap, of 250 sovs; seven furlongs—..yland, 1-1.5, 1; Rose Noble, 10.5, 2; Wimmera, 10.13, 3. Ail started: Penates 1i1.9, Wauchope 11.5, Sharpshooter 10.5, Miss Dorie 9.9, Adjudge 9.0, 'Royal Marine 9.0, Zetland 9.0, Gold Braid 9.0, and Pinul 9.0. Won by a length and a half. Also started: Umeraboy 11.9, Guianoforte 10.13, Brasenose 10.12, Adage 10.4, Canterbury 9.0, Eaglestone 9.0, Mediterranean. 9.0/ and St. Kerwin 9jo. Won by two lengths. Time, linin 33 2-ssec. Selwyn Handicap, of 200 sovs; six furlongs.—Elec trakoff, 10.9, 1; NorthEast, 11.3, 2; Los Angelos, 11.0, 3. Also started: Federal 10.6, Prim 10.3, Mon Ami 10.2, Scotch Maid 9.10, CashieT 9.2, Medallist 9,0, and 'lnclibonny 9.0.. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, lmin 18 2-ssec.
Hunters' Plate Handicap, of 100 sovs; one mile and a half.—Hawich, 12.5, 1; Totilca, 12.15, 2; Spaniard, 12.4, 3. Also started: Mauri 12.13, Canton 11.11, Kingsway 11.10, Red King 11.0, Lady Creswick 11.1, and Napoleon 11.0. Won by half a head. Time, 2min 51 l-ssec.
NORTH TARANAKI HUNT CLUB MEETING. " | In our advertising columns will be found full particulars of the annual race meeting promoted 'by the North Taranaki Hunt Club. The programme of seven events includes two open hack races and five steeple, hurdle and flat races, for qualified hunters. The Club gives the maximum of stakes allowed, and, judging fby the interest takei) in past meetings, this year's gatherings should be splendidly supported. Nominations close with the secretary, Mr. A. L. Humphries, Ourrie street, New Plymouth, to-night at 9 o'clock. _ Mr. George Morse will declare his handicaps about August 19, and acceptances close on August 24. The meeting will be held oil the New Plymouth Racecourse.
