The Glebe Island carcase butchers have offered the men the rates asked, pending reference to the Wages Board. They ask for a reply by noon to-day.
EFFECT OF AN AWARD.
Sydney, August 13.
By the recent award the Country Sawmill Wages Board granted increases. TShe manager of a Grafton mill states that the export trade will be discontinued as New South Wales will be unable to compete with other States where wages ore lower. This will reduce the hands employed to one-tihird the present number.
A STRIKE SETTLED. Adelaide, August 13. Owing to the intervention of Major Cohen, Simpson's operatives will return to work on Monday on the understanding that the State Conciliation Board consider tihe matter in dispute and make the award retrospective to the date of returning to work.
