WOMAN'S SUFFRAGE. MR. LLOYD-GEOROE JUSTIFIES HIS STAND. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, August -lcl. Mr. Lloyd-George, addressing a Carnarvon Women's Liberal Association, ju&tified his vote against woman's suffrage. He declared that it was an undemocratic Bill, .\ nich' would give the vote to every, wcuian. .with property, but .barely a tenth of the working women had any. He and Mr. Churchill bad been denounced" trs - traitors to the women's cause because they did not support a .measure which the suffragists Jn Australia and New Zealand would scornfully reject. He doubted if women really wanted the franchise. A settlement with the Lords and Welsh disestablishment were the paramount questions, apd afterwards a democratic suffrage would have his whole-hearted support. 'The political weather was a little uncertain, and he advised Liberals to carry their macintoshes.
PENSIONS FOR WORKERS. London, August 12. Mr. Lloyd-George, speaking at Dolwyddelan, said he had already prepared a, scheme and raised the necessarj money to secure workmen from breaking down before seventy from absolute want. He hoped- the allowance would exceed 3s per week.
AN IMPRACTICABLE SCHEME. Received August 14, 5.5 p.m. London, August 13. Sir filbert Parker, in a letter to: the Times, says the Government's credit banks schemes is unbusinesslike, and declares the Government is unable to afford loans to tenants who have little security. The Unionists offered ownership instead of .tenancy, and offered purchase instead of perpetual rent.
