PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Parihaka Boad Board was held ill the Boardroom, ] Ra'hotu, on Wednesday. There were present: Messrs. Young (chairman), Deegan, Harvey,' Ducker and Willcox. The foreman is to keep the staff on the Upper Arawihata road for another week to get some bad places patched up. A 1 complaint about a gate across lower King road is to stand over till next meeting. / Mr. Willcox moved, in accordance with notice of motion, to abolish .separate road accounts and keep ward accounts only. He contended that, under the present system, some parts of the district were being benefited unduly at the expense of others. The rates accruing to any ward should be kept strictly in that ward. An amendment that the present system be not altered was carried by 3 votes to 2. lA petition from ratepayers on Opua road, asking the Board to raise a loan of £250, and strike a special works rate of Visd in the £ for four years, was presented by Mr. S. Feaver. The Board decided that if the petition is in order the necessary steps to strike the rate will be taken. At a later stage Messrs. Cross and Hamilton objected to the petition on the grounds that the amount was too small and not in keeping with the estimate of the Board's foreman. The chairman explained that the matter was in the ratepayers' hands; as two-thirds of the number, representing half the value, can outvote the others. T. Fleming asked permission to cart gravel from a pit on Kina road.—The foreman t.o arrange. . The Board decided to sell Mr. Fleming some 24-inch pipes at 8s 6d each. Mr. Hickey was granted permission to put up a guard fence on road to protect a box hedge. The County Council asked the Board the price of the old 3ft. moulds.—Left with the foreman to deal with. Several offers of second-hand safes were received.—Left in the chairman's 'hands to arrange. The Moa Road Board enquired f or„ information as to cost of making concrete pipes.—'lnformation supplied by the clerk. In reply to an enquiry from Mr. Dive, M.P., asking if the. Board had any roads under it 9 control entitled to Government grants.—lt was resolved that Mr. Dive be informed that the Wiremu road needed a grant of about £SOOO for bridges and opening to shorten distances and Telieve other roads, but that it was not under the Board's control. • Warea Road settlers, sent in £24 donations towards repairs to the road, and in addition have put in labor to, the value of £2O on .the road. ■The chairman , reported that Mr. Newton King had agreed to fence off the saleyards from the Board's yards. '- Accounts amounting .t0,...£75.7 were , passed for payment.
