AUCKLAND SESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. At the Supreme Court, before Mr. Justice Edwards, Mary Josephine Malam pleaded, guilty to bigamy at Rotorua, and was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. A pitiful tale of her husband's cruelty was told by Mr. Earl, who appeared on her behalf. He had not provided her with a proper home, and ended by ordering her away. She worked as a waitress in Kotorua, where she married again. William Patrick Brophy was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment for theft at Helensville. Charles Kissling, a new arrival in New Zealand, forged twenty-! our 1 cheques on the Waihi Mining Company, but was caught before they were uttered. A sentence of two years was, imposed. , ,i Joseph Coles, for theft from a dwel-! lin, received three years, his Honour ■ emarking that be was lucky to bein» declared a habitual criminal. j Cyril Albert Hoskin received two years for theft of a watch from a vessel at Opotiki. ! . James Mason, for theft, was declared | a habitual criminal, as was James, Aitken, against whom there were twen- j ty-one 'convictions.
