STATE NOTE ISSUE.
THE REGRET OF THE BANKS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, August 11. The associated banks, writing to the Federal Cuvernment in reference to the note issue, regret the innovation and criticise the decision to redeem notes only at Melbourne, which will have the tendency to take all the gold to that city. It is unfair that banks should do all the work of distributing, while the Government desires all the profit. The proposed reserve should also be increased by 25 per cent.
