THE FIGHT FILMS
NO POWER TO PROHIBIT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Wednesdav. Mr. T. P. Martin, solicitor to the Municipal Association, advises Oliristchureh City Council that it has no power to prohibit the exhibition of the Johnson-Jeffries fight pictures. He says that there is no 'general law dealing with the censorship of- dramas and the like, and the council in licensing halls is concerned only with'the fitness of the building, not with the character of the entertainment.
•In reply to overtures made by the Wellington Presbytery relative to the prohibition of exhibitions of pictures of the Johnson-Jeffries fight, a letter was read at a meeting of that body from the Prime Minister stating that it would be inadvisable to introduce legislation dealing with oie particular case. Legislation had been prepared, however, dealing with the subject generally, and would be submitted to Parliament shortly.
