WHEAT M VICTORIA. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, August 10. The Government Statist estimates the area under wheat for grain' and-hay in the coming season at 2,570,600 acres,' against 2£83,562 last season, the grain area showing an increase of 248,438 acres. A STEAMER' ASHORE. Brisbane, August 10. The steamer Easter is ashore in the middle channel at Rockhampton. The cargo is being lightered, and it ia expected that the vessel will be refloated. PLAGUE OP CATERPILLARS. Sydney, August 10. A plague of caterpillars in the Western Darling district may seriously affect the prosperity of the coming season. "VICTORIAN PRODUCE. Sydney, August 10. The result of the stand token by Sydney merchants as to the quality of Victorian produce has greatly improved it.

Early this morning the two top floors of Messrs. Lyon and Millings' hardware warehouse, Clarence street, were destroyed by fire. A considerable quantity of crockery and glassware were destroyed. The damage is estimated at £6OOO.
