BOROUGH COUXOIL. ';=' (From Our Own Correspondent.) usual monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening there .being present-Hi* Worship the Mayor, Crs. Tate, Birdling, Rattenbury, Spurdle, Klenner, Black and Brabant. \ The Taranaki County asked that an undertaking be given that should any work be required to the road over the pipe line, any alteration to the mains would be made 'by the Borough. Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., acknowledged the receipt of several communications,, which he promised to give attention to. . . . I The Hon. the Minister for Railways, through Mr. Jennings, replied that the Borough's application that Browne street be opened had been referred to die officers tovreport on. Mr. Jennings forwarded replies from the Hon. the Minister for Lands in reference to several applications made for certain reserves, i The Crown,, Lands Commissioner replied, in reference to the issue of a title to certain reserves that had. been vested in the Council as Library 'Reserves, that such would be done on application' to the District Land Registrar. The District Land Registrar, in Teplj to a communication from the Town Clerk, said that the title to certain seotions would be issued as soon as po*-' sible. i The Son. the 'Minister of Lands, through Mr. Jennings, wrote stating that an Order in Council was being prepared to reinstate the Borough as trustees of the Domain, Mr. ,C. A similar application was made and granted to T. Buchanan for a building on Bank street. Mr. M. Sheehy was granted permission to erect a signboard over the footpath in Warrle street. Mr. J. Morrison applied for the transfer to 6. McKenzie of the lease of bU& 51.—Granted. The secretary of the Harbor Boani asked that a drain be removed from ill present position to allow of the ahajf extension.—Referred to the Works übw mittee and the Borough's representative! on the Board. * Mr. L. Freestone asked that a footpath be made to -his new residence on [Pratt street.—ißeferred to the Works Committee. The Chairman of the Works Committee reported on the work done during the month. It was resolved that in future, when any of the Borough's plant was hired, one of the steff must be in chaTge, his wages being paid by the hirer. Final notice is to be sent to a prop-erty-owner whose fence encroaches on ' the main street. Messrs. Orbell and Mackay submitted a report on the work done for the month in connection with the water scheme. Messrs. Thos. Borthwick and Sons applied for the lease of blk. 116.—1t 'was. resolved that the same be submitted to auction on the renewable lease system, and that two other Library reserves he leased for a period of ten years. The town clerk was instructed to lay two informations against T. Dryman for non-observance of the 'building by-laws. The Tennis Club held a very enjoyable and successful social last evening. An effort is to be made this evening to resuscitate the Horticultural and, from the apparent interest bemf taken, the move should be a successful one. Poultry fanciers intend to put in a claim to associate a poultry snow in connection with the Society, and there seems no reason why the two should not work well together. There is a awn of £l6 in hand from the old society. On Friday afternoon the committee and those interested in the Ploughing Association is to be held at Mr. Jenkin's, mart at 2.30. From what can I* gathered, the promoters are meeting with satisfactory success, and, evidently the proposal to hold a aeries of matches will be well supported. Mr. Sam Loveridge met with a painful accident whilst working at the concrete well at the river mouth, and it will be some weeks before he is able to resume work. Further large additions are to bo made to the Freezing Work* next sea* son. New buildings on the present site and covering a further half-acre ©1 land in the vicinity are contemplated.
