Owing to 'bad trade the Blackburn Savings Club is paying out £70,000 sterling, instead of the customary £IOO,OOO in connection with the operatives' annual holiday., Savings clubs are common in all lish towns,, operatives paying in small weekly sums for definite objects—holidays, clothes, Christmas fare, and so on. The deposits are, of course, governed by the wages earned, and the diminution mentioned above shows that the operatives have lost much work.
