THE BILBAO STRIKE. SOCIALISTS EXCITED. Madrid,, August 1. A- great meeting of Socialists in Madrid protested against troops going to Bialbo in connection with the strike, alleging that this was favoring employers. .Speakers threatened a general strike.
THE PAPAROA MINERS. Greymouth, August 2. The Paparoa miners intimate that they are prepared to start work tomorrow morning, on condition that the manager deposits 245, to he refunded if .-'Smeaton. and .Harris, after an enquiry by the directors of, the Paparoa Obmpany, are found to be guilty of wilful neglect. The manager of the,Paparoa Mine has answered the men's letter, agreeing tct allow work to resume at any time, pending full enquiry as to the charge of wilful, negligence, for which Smear, ton and Harris were suspended, and conceding that they be allowed to re-, sume work till an enquiry is held.
