At a crowded meeting of ratepayers to-night it was decided to form a riyer board to deal with the erosion of the Manawatu river between Longburn railway bridge and the Manawatu gorge:' SLY GROGGERS FIXED. Two young iinen who were caught in one of the premises raided were each fined £2. "WHALE WASHED ASHORE., Ashburton, 'Monday. A living whale, twenty feet in length, was washed ashore opposite the anglers' huts at the mouth of the Rakaia River on Sunday. Three boys cut their initials in the blubber, establishing prima facie evidence of ownership. This monuig, however, the whale disappeared. It; is expected it will be washed ashore again somewhere on the Ninety-mile Beach,
