TROUBLE IN TIBET
BATTALIONS WARNED TO BE IN READINESS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Calcutta, July 29. The Indian Government has warned two battalions and a mountain battery to be in readiness to advance into Tibet to protect the British Trading Agency at Gyangtse. CHINESE AND TIBETANS. 1000 CHINESE MASSACRED. Received July 31, 5.5 p.m. Simla, July 31. The troops who have received warning will not advance unless an attack from Gyangtse is imminent. The troops will remain <=' riotiv neutral should a Chinese collision with the Tibetans occur. Bitterness is increasing, and 1000 Chinese troops are reported to have been massacred at Lhassa in the month of May. The Chinese 'have not succeeded in selecting a successor to the Dalai Lama, who is still at Darjeeling.
