W. J. BRYAN'S DOWNFALL. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received July 27, 10.40 p.m. New York, July 27. The Democratic State Convention, sitting at Grand Island, defeated Mr. W. J. Bryan's amendment against limiting the debate to certain resolutions. This shut out Mr. Bryan's speech in support of country option on the sale of liquor, and marks his downfall as the Democratic leader in his own State. TRIBUTE TO PRESIDENT TAFT. Received July 27, 10.15 v.m. New York, July 27. > Mr. Nicholas. Longworth (Mr. Roosevelt's son-in-law), chairman of the Republican Convention, paid a glowing tribute to Mr. Taft's administraction.
