SPORTING.
METROPOLITAN COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Metropolitan Committee was held last niiglht. There were present: Messrs. C. M.. Lepper (in the chair), Sole, Nolan, Weston, Webster, Orbell, Hempton, Standish, Blundell, Ellis, Budge and King. The programme for the North Taranaki Hunt Cub's meeting on September 1 was passed, and permission wias granted for the use of the Taranaki Jockey Olub's racecourse, and authority to issue gentlemen riders' licenses for that date was granted. The following licenses were granted:— Trainers: Jeiwis George, Ben Nicholls, Robert Barlow, Jas. O'Neill, Percy Coffey, T. F. Goddard and' W. F. Manltle. Jockeys: A. J. Gray; Ohas. Cochrane, Robert BaMow, -H. E. Gray. The following sub-committees were duly elected: Country Club's Programmes, Messrs. Nolan, Weston .ind Standish; Licenses, Messrs. Lepper, Sole and Standish, Dr. Valentine is to be asked to supply an estimate of the cost ot an up-to-date ambulance for the use of the Metropolitan and all district clubs. The Hon. 0. Samuel's report of the business conducted at the recent racing Olub's conference will be available (or next meeting. The Metropolitan meet on tlie third Tuesday in each month at 8 p.m. TARANIAKI JOCKEY CLUB. The same members (with the exception of Mr. Budge) then sat a<s the Taranaki Jockey Club Committee. Correspondence was received; from' the Chxiatchurch Company re Turf i Registrar; Borough Council re local Bill. The Club recommends that the j Borough Council be given power to grant building leases on Borough reserve on tlie eastern side of Avenue road. The following officers were elected: Assistant clerk of scales, Mr. W. Weston; -clerk of course, Mr. J. C. Montefiore;' timekeeper, Mr. J. Bennett; handicapper, Mr. George Morse; starter (Christmas meeting), Mr. Budge, (autumn meeting) Mr. C. O'Connor. - The Course Committee, consisting of "Messrs. Lepper, Webster, Nolan 'and I Sole was set up, and also a Programme Committee, consisting of Messrs. Lepper, King and Blundell. Accounts amounting to £2B IDs 0d were passed for payment. A vote of thanks was passed to the Hon. 0. Saffltiel, M.L.0., .for represent-' tag tlhe' Club at the recent conference in Wellington. A Christehurdi wi'itf states that Wet Day was scratched for tiit* Winter Cup at 3 p.m. yesterday. Feu-de-Joie was scratched at 4 p.m. for all engagements at the Chris tefirtrdi Grand National meetin". 9.
