HAPPY: THOUGH BANKRUPT
CREDITORS HARANGUED. By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent. Auckland, Last Night. The statement of affairs of Donald Gillanders, a bankrupt farmer, was received by the Official Assignee (Mr. E. Gerard) to-day. The bankrupt estimates his liabilities to unsecured creditors at £328 18s, and his assets at £1387 15s, leaving a nominal surplus of £BSB 17s. "Ladies and gentlemen," the bankrupt stated, after accounting for his position, "I am here to-day not to dodge your claims or only pay part, but to call on those who hare a right to pay to put the shoulder to the wheel, as I have done and am still going to do, to make those who sell me farms give- me the true thing, lighten my burden by making those pay who ought to pay, or. if you take every shilling I own. I will still be a lva.ppy man, having the best woman in the world as my wife and the best baby that heaven could present. I am young, and will pay every penny you claim."
