THE CORONATION DECLARATION
PROTESTANT PETITIONS. , THE POPE'S JURISDICTION. By Cable.—Press .Association.—Copyright Received July 26, 9.35 p.m. London, July 26. Three hundred Scottish petitions against the Coronation Declaration Bill have reached the Commons; also the petition of '2500 Canadians in favor of the existing declaration. The Bishop of Manchester, presiding at a crowded meeting in support of the maintenance of the Protestant succession, declared he tfas aware that the terms of the declaration were offensive to a large number of £he King's subjects, but there were occasions when it was the truest charity to speak plainly. The declaration as at present would form a real bulwark against the sorrows of civil and religious war. Dr. Clifford, in a, Jetter, remarks that the Bishop of Chichester gets near what is wanted in suggesting that the declaration shall assert that Pope has no jurisdiction in England.
