EMIGRATION TO THE COLONIES
WORK OF THE VICTORIAN DELEGATES. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, July 22. The Victorian delegates are visiting the West of England. They .had good meetings at Plymouth and' Bristol, where they found many desirable colonists, but tUey had poor attendances at Taunton and Exeter, Canadians having cleared the district. Mr. Mead is confident that he will obtain the requisite number of emigrants. CANADIAN IMMIGRANTS. Received July 24, 5.5 p.m. Ottawa, July 23. The Government has decided that immigrants landing after October must be possessed of ten pounds each as provision against the severe winter. INDIA PROHIBITING EMIGRATION. Received July 24, 5.5 p.m. Calcutta, July 23. The Indian Legislative Council has passed a Bill empowering the Government to prohibit emigration. The Secretary for Trade declared the Government ■would never exercise this power un:S they had fully discussed the question •with the country concerned.
