STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night.
Mr. J. Plitsch, of Stratford, who has recently disposed of his interest in the Commercial Hotel, proposes taking a trip to France in October. Mrs. Plitsch will accompany Mr. Plitsch. The Stratford Electric Light Company have decided to double their plant. The cost of the work, which is t« be put m hand at once, will be between £3OOO and £4OOO. I hear that it is proposed to put on a day load, and it is to be hoped that such will prove to be the case, as motive power is needed by many firms. It is anticipated that six months will elapse before the work is completed.
A match between the Stratford and New Plymouth ladies' hockey clubs was played at Stratford yesterday, and resulted in a draw, each side securing two goals.
In spite of the wet night, there was a large attendance at the Catholic social, which proved socially and financially a success.
Yesterday, at Ngaere, Miss Carter was married to Mr. A. P. Wood, of Tututawa.
A great many people were enquiring this morning as to the fate of the bookmaker and the totalisator. That the bookmaker is to vanish from the scene appears to meet with general approval, but opinion is very divided on the matter of the totalisator. It is generally conceded that there will be a reduction of permits issued. The next fight will be, especially if Parliament decrees that the reduction shall be a substantial one, as to which clubs shall lose the right to work "the machine."
