PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Parihaka Road Board, which was adjourned last week on account of the Hawera show, took place on Wednesday at the Board's office, Rahotu. There were present: Messrs. Young (chairman), Deegan, Ducker, Harvey, and Willcox. The special order pas'sed at last meeting re striking a special rate for the aihal No. 3 loan was confirmed.

The question of fencing between the saleyards and the Board's property was left'for the clerk and any member present at the time.

The foreman's report was read and adopted. Some formation and drainage recommended is to be done at the top end of Ngariki road with the balance of the loan money. An 18-inch concrete pipe culvert is to be placed on the Upper Waitea'ka road.

The JEgmonti County Council is to be asked to contribute half cost of a culvert required at the junction of the Lower Waiteaka and South roads. Iliaia Road: The settlers have contributed £6O, which has been subsidised £ for £ by the Board. This has been sufficient to repair the road down as far as Mr. King's. The Board decided that if the settlers contribute a further £25 the Board would find the balance necessary to repair the road to the bottom. Warea-Newall Road: Mr. Ducker referred to the serious state of this road, and mentioned that some of the settlers had had their teams out patching it. The Board resolved to give a £ for £ subsidy up to £3O. tipper Kahui Road: Work to the extent of £5 as recommended by the foreman is to be done on an impassable portion near Mr. Eatock's. Mr. Eatock's offer of assistance was accepted. Kaweora Road: The Reserves Agent notified that the Public Trustee would give an additional £IOO for the Kaweora road deviation provided the settlers found the balance required to complete the work. The foreman was instructed to arrange with the contractor to arrange with the con-tractor to continue work on the deviation at the same price per chain as his present contract. Opourapa Road: The foreman is to attend to repairs on this road as requested by a deputation. Opua Road: A deputation waited on the Board in respect to the condition of this road and the method of improving it. Information was given re raising loans and special rates. After some disIcussion it was decided to raise a special works rate for about five years, which would give £3OO available for repairing the road.

Turu Road: Steps are to be taken to raise a loan of £3OO for making this road.

Rates: The chairman gave notice to move that a halfpenny rate be struck for the ensuing yeaF. Mr. Willcox gave notice to move that wards accounts be substituted in lieu oi the present road accounts. He also reported, in reference to Mr. Chapman's complaint of water backing up, that he had inspected the locality, and saw no need for any action iby the Board. The foreman is to see Mr. Magon re his complaint, and is also to attend to damage done to Mr. Rooke's farm on account of metal-carting.

An information is to be laid against a carter for a breach of the by-laws. The clerk was instructed to obtain a safe for use at Opunake. Accounts totalling £204 were passed for payment.
