STATE BANK NOTES CONDEMNED. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Received July 22, 9.45 p.m. Sydney, Last Night. At the half-yearly meeting of the Commercial Banking Company, the chairman, referring to the Federal note issue, said the directors considered this was a retrograde movement, as it was against the evidence of financial experts of all countries. Their bank note must suffer in profit, owing to losing the two per centum note tax now paid, by the .banks.
ACQUITTED OF MANSLAUGHTER. Melbourne, July 22. Is connection with the death of Hulme, a school teacher, who died after an altercation with his head master, the latter has been acquitted on. a charge of manslaughter. [A cable on 7th June stated that the headmaster of the Flemington school, named Roberts, had an altercation in his room with an assistant named Hulmet. The latter emerged with a cut face. Shortly afterwards he was found dead in the school yard.]
RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Brisbane, July 22. While crossing Johnstone river to Geraldton, a locomotive left the track and crashed into the river. The driver jumped clear, but the fireman, named Hoppe, was pinned underneath by both legs and was drowned. BUSH NURSING. Sydney, Jtily 22. The Sydney .Morning Herald Proprietary has' donnted £IOOO, and the Daily Telegraph £250, to Lady Dudley's bush nursing scheme, which takes the form of a memorial to King Edward. MOUNT LYALL RETURNS. Melbourne, July 22. Mount Lyall returns from June 16 t« July 13 show that 32,700 tons of ore were treated, and the converters produced 652. tons of blister copper containing 644 tons of copper, 51,633 ounces of silver, and 809 ounces of gold.
