A "LIBELLOUS" RECORD

BOOKIE COMES TO GRIEF.

By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, July 21.

Stoddart, a bookmaker, sued the Daily Mail, Evening News, and Despatch for publishing what was alleged to be a libellous record of bis life after his -->tiviction in the coupon frauds last year. This conviction was subsequently quashed on a technical point. The defence was justification, and that plaintiff had been engaged in a long earlier of swindling, and was several times warned off racecourses. The rider of Stoddart's horse Red Rube swore he was instructed not to win.

A verdict was returned for defendants.
