The ignition of a case of gelatine caused an explosion at Simmer East Deep Mine in the Transvaal, by which fifteen natives were killed. The eiglitynine injured taken to the hospital included thirteen whites.

PREMATURE IGNITION.

New York, July 20,

By the premature ignition of a charge in a 12-inch gun an explosion occurred in the shore battery at Fort Monroe, Vermont, by which ten men were killed and seven injured, two of whom are i« a critical state.
