HUNTING.
On Saturday last the North Taranaki Hunt held a bye-meet, at Mr. Mabin's property, Onaero. About GO members were present; and they had very good sport, with plenty of running. There were, however, rather too many hares and too much cover, and consequently there were no kills. Mr. Mabin had gone to a lot of trouble in having all the fences well sparred, and the jumping was good throughout. The members of the Hunt were entertained very hospitably by Mr. Mabin and Mr. and Mrs. Harris, who were heartily thanked by the master, Mr. A. H. Halcombe. After the hunt the hounds that won prizes at the recent Napier show were sorted out from the pack and shown to the members of the hunt. Mr. Halcombe complimented the huntsman, Mr. A. Cliff, on the successful result of his labors, and the excellent condition into which he had got the hounds.
The North Taranaki Hune has decided to alter the date of its filial meet at the kennels, Bell Block, from August 25 to August 11. This is being done to enable members of the Wanga-nui-Egmont Hunt to be present, that Hunt's race meeting being fixed for August 25. The North Taranaki Hunt is inviting the neighboring Hunt to at-i tend the meet referred to.
