PERSONAL.

When the Magistrate's Court opened yesterday morning, Mr. Hutchen, as president of the Taranaki Law Society, and on behalf of the members of the Bar, congratulated Mr. Fitzherbert, K.M., upon his having so far recovered his health as to be able to resume his duties on the Bench. The news of his serious illness had been received by the members' of the Bar with very great regret, because no Magistrate had secured their confidence and respect of' the public in the same measure that Mr. Fitzherbert had. Mr. Hutchen thanked his Worship •for the orderly and punctual manner in which he had conducted the business of the Court, and he 'hoped that he would soon be: completely restored to health, and that lie would have a long and prosperous career on the Bench he adorneit. Mr. Fitzherbert feelingly thanked Mr. Hutchen and the members of the Bar for their kind expressions, and stated lie felt • that he scarcely merited the eulogium. He was gratified to know that his endeavors to do his duty without fear or favor were appreciated. His Worship thanked the Bar for the unfailing! courtesy with which he had always been treated by the members of the legal profession locally, and said that when the time came, if it came at all, for him to leave the district he would part from them all with the very greatest regret.
