STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Stratford A. and P. Association, Mr. Healy was authorised to prepare a sketch plan of a grandstand not to cost more than £750. There was some discussion over the date on which the show should he held, and this matter was referred to the general meeting of the committee. Members still continue to come forward for enrolment on the books of the A. and P. Association, and at the next meeting sixty new members will be proposed for election. This will bring the membership close on six hundred. Mr. G. Reader has purchased the house and 222y 2 acres of land belonging to Mr. E. Tichbon in Regan-street west. Mr. J. Robson, who has erected a sawmill at Pohokura, expects to start cutting in about three weeks' time. Mr. and Mrs. Budge left on a trip to Wellington this morning, where Mr. Budge will represent the Taranaki country clubs at the Racing Conference. The many friends of Mrs. J. Maßters will be pleased to hear that there is an improvement in the condition of her health. Mr. S. B. Hunter has been laid up for several days, suffering from a collapse of the nervous system. His medical adviser has ordered him to take a trip as soon as he is fit to travel. I hear on good authority that one of the Ministers will contest a Taranaki seat at the next election. The Inspector-General of Hospitals, Dr. Valintine, will meet the members of the local Hospital Board on Thursday. I hear that the Rev. IT. A. Flavell intends accompanying Bishop Neligan Home, and that a new vicar will be appointed to this parish. The match between the Stratford and Hawera Ladies' Golf Clubs was won by the former, all the local ladies with the exception of one being beaten. Mrs. Walter, wife of Mr. E. Walter, of Toko, died on Saturday. Deceased was sister to Mesdames J. B. Hine. C. Bayly, and Wilson (Waitara) and Mr. W." K. Jones. The Bank of Australasia has opened a branch office at Whangamomona. The following are the results of the second rounds of the championships of the local Golf Club:—Men: N. Black beat F. N. Fussell, F. P. Uniacke beat A. Jones, S. Spence beat E. Robinson, J. Stanford beat Dr. Menzies (by default). Ladies: Miss Orbell beat Mrs. Robinson, Miss F. Orbell beat Mrs. Menzies.
