WAIONGONA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The first of the weekly meetings of the Debating and Improvement Society was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening last. Mr. R. Kilpatrick occupied the chair. The subject for debate was: '"■ Should the totalisator be abolished?" Mr. J. Medley took the affirmative and Mr. Putt the negative, other members

supporting the respective speakers. The vote resulted in a win for the negative by one vote. Impromptu speeches occupied the rest of the evening. An interesting programme was drawn up for the 18th inst., the debate for that evening being the "Cash v. Credit" systems.
