BOOKMAKERS AND FIGHT PICTURES

A meeting of Dr. Henry's united mission committee, to-night resolved to submit the following resolution to the various churches: —''That this congregation strongly urges the repeal of the provision made h the hw for licensing bookmakers, and (he enactment of such restrictive measures as will effectually check the spread of gambling." It was also resolved. "That inasmuch as the public exhibition of pictures portraying prize-fights and other subjects appeal to the lower instincts of the community, it is expedient that a measure should he passed bv Parliament prohibiting the display of such pictures in any public place." We further commend the action which the Premier has promised to take for the suppression of such displays/'
