COMPENSATION FOR ACCIDENT. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, July 14. The amended Workers' Compensation Bill introduced by Mr. Wade defines a workman as a person of any age of either sex who is under a contract to an employer made before or after the commencement of the Act, who is en»aced in manual labor. Compensation where death results and dependents are left wholly dependent on deceased's earnings at the time of death is fixed at a sum equal to the earnings for three years preceding, or £2OO, whichever amount is larger. In case there are no dependents, compensation covers medical and burial expenses not exceeding £l2. In case of total or partial incapacity, after the second week the payment of a sum not exceeding 59 per "cent, of ordinary weekly wages, with a maximum of f.l weekly, the total liability not to exceed £IOO. Employers are not liable where the injury does no* disable a workman for a period of last two weeks or in respect of injuries directly attributable to the workers' own serious or wilful misconduct.
NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION. Melbourne, July 14. In the Assembly, Mr. Murray, replying to the no-confidence motion, said that the first serious charge against the Government \v?.s with regard to immigration. Aspersion was cast upon the boys brought to Victoria. He would have liked to see a hundred more of them. The Loader of the Federal Labor Party was not born in Australia, and prominent members of the party had arrived as poor lads. By the policy of the State Labor Party the doors of Australia would have DC.cn shut, bolted and barred against them. FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, July 14. The Federal Address-in-Reply has been carried in both Houses. The Sugar Bounty Bill, which was read a first time, provides for a sliding scale. The Bill providing for the payment of twenty-five shillings per head to vhe States for ten years has been introduced in the Federal House of Representatives and read a first time
