KAIKOURA UNDER WATER. WASH-OUT ON. THE RAILWAY. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchureh, Last Night. Heavy rain is falling in all the northern districts. At Cheviot five inclhes fell in two days. A washout occurred on the railway a mile beyond Domett. New works on the railway extension are reported to be badly damaged. Kaikoura reports the heaviest rain for years. All the streets are overflowing, and the country around is under water. A creek running through the town flooded the buildings in the West End, and people were up all night in tlhe low-lying parts. North Canterbury is all under water, and protective works at Ashley railway bridge are endangered. There are no signs of clearing.
