LEANING TOWER OF PISA.
ITS COLLAPSE THREATENED.
By Cable—Press Association.— Copyright Rome, July 11. I The Italian Royal Commission, whose duty it is to look after the safety of national monuments, reports that the famous leaning tower of Pisa is mereasin" its angle, and a complete collapse is "likely unless preventive measures aie at once undertaken. The Campanile, or leaning tower, is] 183 ft. high and is lift. 2ra. (or, if the, cornice be included, 13ft. Bin.) out of I the perpendicular. There is no reason i to suppose that the architects intended that th° Campanile should be bnKt m this oblique position; it would appear to have assumed it while the work was | still'in progress. Galileo made exnen-l ments on the rate of falling bodies from, this tower.
