AMUSEMENTS.

"THE MESSIAH." ON THE GRAMOPHONE. Yesterday afternoon we heard "The Messiah" solos and choruses reproduced on a splendid gramophone at Messrs. H. Collier and Co.'s music warehouse in Devon street. It is the finest record ever reproduced here, for the soloists and choruses are a special company of hiigh-ehvss artists. The publication of "The Messiah" in the form, of gramophone records now makes it possible to hear this magnificent work in one's own home in a. manner which, as regards the solo work, necessitates a journey to the Royal Albert Hall or some equally i important centre. Such names as those of Miss Perceval Allen and John Harrison are sufficiently known in connection with the great musical festivals to guarantee that this noble music is performed and reproduced in accordance with the spirit in which such a truly sacred work should ever be regarded. The quietness of the Sunday must be enhanced rather than broken by such reproductions as those of the "Pastoral Symphony,"' the singing of "He shall feed His flock/' by Madame Dews, Mr. Harrison's "Comfort ye," or the fine performance of Mr. Charles Knowles of "The people that walked in darkness." Many musical people whose interests do not iie in fields supplied by operatic publications will be surprised and delighted by the advances recently made in the quality of gramophone reproductions «is instanced by /this issue of "The Messiah."

• The firan is also showing a. very fine "New Cecil Zonopihone," described as the best value ever offered in the talkingmachine trade.
