ASSOCIATION GAME. NORTH v. SOUTH. A North v. South trial game was played yesterday at Stratford before about two hundred spectators. The game generally was very disappointing, seeing that from this match eleven men were to he picked to do duty for Taranaki against Wellington for the hlue ribboi of "Soccer." the Brown - Shield. The game ended in a draw of one goal each, scored by Sparrow for the North, and a penalty taken by the Kaponga back for the South. For the North, Sparrow was the best of the forwards, working hard, but of really no avail, as he had no other men to help him. Haseltine at back played a good defensive game. Elliott at half stood out alone, his good work being spoiled by the miserable display of the men in front of him. For the Southerners, Law at outside right is a good man, and played a good game. •Nichol at half played a hard game, but is rather inclined to over-much wild kicking. o'Dea,Mn goal, played a very fair game, being easily the better goalkeeper of the two. It was noticeable that there were only two selectors on the ground, Messrs. S. Clark and Simpson, for the North. The South selectors did not put in an appearance. Great interest is being taken in the selection of the representatives, for the personnel of the tria'ty, teams was freely criticised. ;

Local footballers will regret to learn of the death of Prank .McDonald, an erstwhile member of the EltliMii senior team, and often known as Frank Glasgow's "double." The latter, by the way, often got the credit of a lot of good work that his "double" performed. He was an honest grafter in the pack. The deceased, who had only reached the age of twenty-seven years, had also done a good deal of racing oh the cycle track.
