WAITARA NEWS.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Waitara Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, there being present: His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Tate, Birdling, Rattenbury, Spurdle, Black and Brabant. An apology was received from Cr. Klenner. CORRESPONDENCE.

Correspondence was read as follows: From Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., accepting the position of delegate from this Council at the Conference.

From stationmaster, complaining of the nightsoil contractor's neglect of his work at the station. From Mr. J. W. Laing, asking for access to some sections when conditions proved favorable. From Catholic Church committee, asking that something be done to make Broadway more safe in regard to the drain.

From the Spiral Steel Pipe Co. and Messrs Orbell and Maekay, re water supply matters.

The building surveyor submitted his half-yearly report, which showed that buildings' of over the value of £3OOO had been erected during the past six months.

The Works Committee reported thatas soon as the grader coukl be got to work the Flagstaff road would receive attention, but that nothing could be done in Strange street until weather conditions permitted. The application of Mr. Laing was referred to the Works Committee to report. " ' The Works Committee were authorised to cut rushes, etc., on Broadway. It was resolved to instruct the ranger to prosecute owners of animals found straying. ■' on public highways, also to impound cattle even if under charge if found being grazed on the streets. The building surveyor's report was adopted, On the motion of the Mayor, seconded fiyOr. Spurdle, it was resolved to apply to tlie Hon. the Minister for Lands to be. re-appointed a Board. It was decided to authorise the engineers to revert to their original plan in regard to the position of the equilibrium valve-, Mr. Climis assenting. His Worship also moved that the attention of the Hon. the Minister for Lands be drawn to the fact that since February, 1891, certain reserves in the borough at Waitara have been considered to be vested in the borough, and from the reading of the minutes of the previous local governing body—the Raleigh \ Town Board—it was ; evidently the intention of the then Government to vest such recreation reserves in the Town Bdard, but from correspondence received from the Crown Lands Commissioner at New Plymouth, such vesting had not taken place, and the Minister be respectfully asked to complete what his predecessors very'evidently intended ( to do. It 'Was also resolved to ask the Hon. Minister for Lands to vest section 11, blqck 2d, East, in the Library as a reserve)

The chairman of the Works Committee reported having taken advantage of che,up metal and contracted for some 500 or 600 yards in anticipation' of the street loan, which would! he held until the loan was obtained.—The action was confirmed.
